Yorkshire Division One is an English rugby union division, the seventh tier of the domestic competition, and the top level for local rugby union in parts of Yorkshire. The champions are automatically promoted to North 1 East, a division with a wider geographical area which also encompasses north east England. Rugby Union in Yorkshire. In 1823 during a game of Football at Rugby School, the game of Rugby Union was created by William Webb Ellis as he reputedly caught and ran with the ball towards the goal. The rules of the sport were later developed in 1845. The sport of Rugby Union does not yet enjoy the fame of its League counterpart in Yorkshire but the union's traditions of providing great entertainment and strong competition are long and proud.

Leeds Tykes is an English rugby union club in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, playing in the National League 1. The club was founded as Headingley RFC, but renamed in 1991 when it joined with Roundhay RUFC to form Leeds RUFC. In 1998, the club merged with Leeds Rhinos to form Leeds Rugby Limited, also known as Leeds Tykes.
